Imagine you’re about to broadcast a live stream for an internal team. It could be a training session for new hires, a lunch and learn with a customer, or an all hands meeting with executives. No matter the reason to go live, the experience has to be stellar.

That’s where an enterprise content delivery network (eCDN) comes in. For businesses that are new to live streaming video content, the right CDN configuration can positively impact your stream and help get your message across.

In this post, we’ll cover:

  • What a content delivery network (CDN) is and how it works
  • What an eCDN is and how it works
  • The difference between a CDN and an eCDN
  • 3 reasons to use an eCDN for your your internal comms video

Buckle up! You’re about to become an expert in content delivery.

What is a CDN?

A CDN is simply a network that delivers content — like video — at a user’s request. It makes it faster and easier to load content and promotes a great experience. “Content” might be HTML, images, or (our favorite) video.

To understand how a CDN works, we’ll need to look at two key components:

  1. Edge server. A CDN includes many edge servers distributed across the globe. This ensures users anywhere in the world can experience fast download speeds whether they’re located in Paris, France or Paris, Texas. When users request content, an edge server that is geographically proximal to them delivers the content. Talk about going local!
  2. Cache mechanism. When appropriate, the cache mechanism creates a copy of the original data anytime content is created or updated and pushes the copy to the edge servers. When a user in Paris, France or Paris, Texas requests to view content such as video, the edge server will return the cached content.

The benefits of a cache mechanism are twofold: they reduce the bandwidth throughput for a better end user experience and reduce the amount of load on the network infrastructure.

So what is an eCDN, then?

Think about your work laptop for a moment. It has pre-configured settings and administrative rules applied. Similarly, the edge servers of your CDN should have the same rules apply for internal communications. Enter: the enterprise content delivery network (eCDN).

An eCDN, like the one used for Vimeo Enterprise, reduces the amount of bandwidth required to stream video by up to 95% on the local area network. This provides employees who are connected to the same network with a quality viewing experience without any interruptions, while driving cost savings from lower bandwidth consumption.

Vimeo partners with eCDN market-leader Kollective to scale enterprise video communications. Not only does Kollective offset 95% of corporate bandwidth, but customers receive robust analytics on how their network capacity has improved.

How does an eCDN work?

The goal of an eCDN is to maintain the benefits of low latency and fast downloads that are integral to a public CDN. Rather than using dedicated servers like a public CDN, a webRTC-based peer-to-peer protocol uses untapped bandwidth on trusted machines.

When live streaming, every millisecond counts. That’s why an eCDN leverages the benefit of subnet matching rather than incurring the costly, round-trip time of querying a public DNS.

eCDNs thrive in fast-paced work environments. No installations, deployments, reconfigurations, or physical infrastructure changes are needed to use an eCDN. For example, Vimeo’s eCDN is unique in that up to 95% of chunks are served by peers, allowing stream delivery to scale in proportion to both the number and geographic diversity of consumers.

Why can’t enterprises use standard CDNs for internal content delivery?

Let’s jump back to something like live streaming a town hall. How you deliver that content is important.

While a CDN (like the one you use to load websites like the New York Times or YouTube) is most suitable for serving public content to end users across the globe, serving internal content to corporate users is a job better suited for an eCDN.

When said users are all trying to access the same network at the same time — and are subject to security and access control measures — standard CDNs do not make the cut. They cause problems for a company because each user is downloading the same stream from an external CDN, resulting in extended buffering of the content employees want to consume.

So how do you create a scalable and secure delivery system for all your awesome video content? Use an eCDN!

CDN vs. eCDN: What’s the difference?

The key difference is that an eCDN is a CDN that specifically uses a peer-to-peer protocol as opposed to publicly accessible servers, maintaining internal controls and security.

3 benefits of using eCDNs for your internal video

So why should you care about peer-to-peer protocols and eCDNs? Let’s check out the most important things businesses should keep in mind when scaling up their internal comms.

1. Quality viewing experience at scale

The peer-to-peer nature of an eCDN reduces the strain on an enterprise’s internal network. This means internal content delivery for your live streamed video can scale on demand, without sacrificing performance or risking unexpected side effects like poor connectivity or high latency.

2. Provides cost-savings from bandwidth consumption

Procurement and budget teams rejoice! Peer-to-peer content delivery reduces the bandwidth required to deliver internal content by routing the majority of connections over the public internet. This helps to reduce your bandwidth costs.

3. Deploys quickly and effortlessly

You don’t need to invest in physical infrastructure. You can leverage what you have — namely the network of trusted machines — to enable the peer-to-peer function.

Wrap up: why content delivery networks matter

The right experience helps users consume and engage with your content. While it might seem scary at first, CDNs are pretty straightforward. They efficiently deliver content to geographically distributed users. eCDNs leverage the principles of a CDN to bring the same user experience with the added benefit of enterprise security and cost-savings.

Next time you’re looking to broadcast an internal meeting, consider all the ways an eCDN can help you deliver video content quickly, efficiently, and with the best user experience in mind.

Become a virtual event pro with Vimeo Events https://vimeo.com/blog/post/vimeo-events/ Tue, 23 Aug 2022 15:22:00 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=43638 You deserve a virtual event experience that gives you control and confidence when going live. Meet Vimeo Events. ]]>

For any modern marketer, virtual events are a must.

They’ve become the center of customer engagement and marketing efforts because, quite simply, they work — virtual experiences are one of the most effective ways to promote a brand, generate leads, and engage customers. In a recent study we learned that more than 75% of marketers believe that live events and webinars are impactful for their business.

We also learned that the process of producing an engaging and successful event is far from perfect. 71% of marketers said they face resource challenges — like technical issues, headcount, and budget constraints — when producing professional-quality live events. Perhaps even more alarmingly, 1 in 3 marketers said they feel stressed or anxious just before their online events go live. Only 1% reported feeling hopeful.

We heard your concerns — traditional event platforms are complicated and hard to use — and we built a solution that cuts right through those pain points.

We’re thrilled to introduce Vimeo Events, a new platform that has everything you need to easily produce and promote stunning virtual events and webinars that deliver ongoing impact for your business

Vimeo Events is equal parts simple and powerful, with core webinar functionality, a DIY live production studio, and dynamic audience engagement tools. The best part? It gives you control and confidence when going live. You can record and storyboard scenes in advance (meaning less stress day-of), then access all of Vimeo’s existing video tools and integrations to market post-event content to your attendees.

In response to customer input, we decided to implement intuitive and layout capabilities into the Vimeo Events browser-based production tool. Now broadcasters have creative freedom with content layouts that include picture-in-picture, spotlight, grid, and side-by-side options that can be pre-selected and filled with the desired scenes. This is all done via intuitive controls.

You can organize and layout your content the way you envisioned, record and storyboard scenes in advance (meaning less stress day-of), then access all of Vimeo’s existing video tools and integrations to market post-event content to your attendees.

Our goal is to put the power of professional-quality video at your fingertips so you and your business can succeed. With Vimeo Events, we’re proud to expand our all-in-one offering in another impactful way: empowering every marketer to produce and promote stunning virtual events easily and confidently.

3 inspiring interactive video examples from the Vimeo community https://vimeo.com/blog/post/3-creators-using-vimeo-interactive-to-make-video/ Fri, 24 Jun 2022 14:00:00 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=47051 Vimeo is empowering creators, marketers, and educators to make interactive video. See how three industry leaders are making their mark.]]>

Interactive video is the new frontier of content creation. Whether you’re a brand looking to increase sales or an educator connecting people across the globe, there’s no better way to drive views, increase engagement, and boost user action than creating a video that puts the viewer in the driver’s seat.

In the past, making an interactive video was complicated, labor intensive, and often required outsourcing. But Vimeo is helping make interactive video creation simple and intuitive, for video makers of every level. And that’s a good thing: because interactive video has been shown to be 32% more memorable and 3x more engaging than traditional video.

Vimeo is home to millions of talented creators. We wanted to highlight how three leaders in their field are using interactive video to find new ways to connect with their audiences. Read on to hear their stories.

A recipe for creativity from Food52

Food52 began as a base for home cooks to share knowledge in 2009. It has since expanded to being a home cooking one-stop-shop: where culinary enthusiasts can browse articles, recipes, and a range of cooking products.

Food52 partners with home and cooking brands to curate a complete home cooking experience. They’re using interactive video to add an exciting new dimension to their videos. From turning a cake-frosting demonstration into a branching storyline adventure to adding shoppable hotspots to a cheese-y spotlight, Food52 sprinkles in seamless product integration using Vimeo tools.

Here’s why Food52 uses interactive video:

“Interactive video has helped us create engaging storytelling elements.

The ease of it was really, really appealing. It’s as simple as it could be to add those interactive features onto a video with Vimeo.”
Gabriella Mangino, Executive Producer, Food52

Interactive accessibility from Colada Creative

UK-based agency Colada Creative produces the highest quality video content to tell the stories of their clients. In order to create an immersive experience for would-be visitors of the Edinburgh Zoo, the Colada team has designed an interactive and experiential video tour of the facilities to help make nature education accessible for all.

Here’s why Colada Creative uses interactive video:

“Interactive is completely different to a normal video, which can be passive. Instead, somebody’s leaning forward and engaging with it. It’s just a different psychology to how people watch it.

The new Vimeo studio is a big leap forward. It’s super intuitive.”
Ian Dewhirst, Producer, Colada Creative

A powerful climate report from IFPRI

The International Food Policy Research Institute is a global think tank focused on food policy and research. The team initially partnered with Vimeo for live streaming large-scale gatherings of policy makers over the pandemic, but they’re now turning to interactive video to enliven their latest climate report.

Their latest Global Food Policy Report uses Vimeo to guide viewers with chapters and overlays. These simple tweaks helps make this vital information digestible for any potential viewer.

Here’s why IFPRI uses interactive video:

“The value of something like Vimeo is that you can do it all. You can have the sound bites, you can have the text, you can have the links for someone to learn more.

In a nutshell, it really resonates with our researchers – it doesn’t feel like it’s diminishing their work. There is that level of trust there that interactive helps bridge.”
Jamed Falik, Visual Design Team Lead, IFPRI

Vimeo’s interactive video platform is currently available as an add-on to Vimeo Enterprise users. Learn more via the link below.

Pump up the SEO – We’re transforming how your videos surface on Google https://vimeo.com/blog/post/video-seo-enhancements/ Mon, 16 May 2022 14:01:48 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=46769 We’re invested in the success of our video-loving community – which is why we are an early adopter of Google Search’s best SEO practices for video players.]]>

To say the internet is a crowded place is an understatement. At least 720,000 hours of video are uploaded every day – which means it’s never been harder to break through the digital noise. You’re probably already using video to expand your business and engage new audiences, but even the highest-quality content is only successful if people actually see it.

That’s where SEO, or “Search Engine Optimization” comes in. Google is a huge center of content discovery for, well, just about everyone. In its most basic form, SEO is the process of improving your content’s visibility in search engines. But there are only so many levers brands can pull to optimize their videos for SEO.

We’re invested in the success of our video-loving community – which is why we are an early adopter of Google Search’s best practices for video players. We work with Google to enable structured data submissions on all of your public videos, providing Google with additional context about your videos, and ultimately giving your videos the best opportunity to appear for relevant searches.

What does this mean for me?

Your videos can be made more discoverable on Google Search. Vimeo’s latest tune-up will enable more detailed video results on Google Search and potentially drive better traffic to your website, social pages, or wherever your videos live.

How does it work?

To reap the benefits of an improved search presentation, all you need to do is make sure your videos are listed as public – our technology will handle the rest (like ensuring your video is indexable, your metadata is optimized, and more.) It’s really that simple! This applies to public videos wherever they live, so you can drive better engagement to the pages that matter most to you.

How do I optimize my videos for Search?

Vimeo’s SEO enhancements are already live (for videos marked as ‘public’), which means you don’t have to do anything to make sure your videos are getting a boost. If you want to give your videos an even better shot at being discovered by more users, here are a few tips we suggest:

  • Add chapters to your videos: Google doesn’t only review the title, but also the titles used for each chapter – which means adding chapters can help users discover the part of your video that is most relevant to their search. (Psst Chapters are available on Pro plans and above – head right this way to upgrade.)
  • Choose your titles wisely: The title is displayed alongside your video thumbnail in search results. While it’s great to have a unique and catchy name for your video, it’s also important to keep your title descriptive using keywords most relevant to your audience’s searches.
  • Research the best keywords: If you want new people to discover your video, it makes sense to describe it in the terms that people are searching for. We recommend using tools like Ahrefs or SEMRush to identify keywords with high search volume to help get your videos in front of more people.

Check out even more tips: from selecting the best thumbnail image to drive views, to adding a video transcript to help search engines understand your video – read up on our SEO best practices.

Collaboration, made human: connect and create virtually with Figma and Vimeo https://vimeo.com/blog/post/figma-vimeo-plugin/ Wed, 08 Dec 2021 15:00:57 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=44416 Your go-to design tool and the leader in all things video are teaming up for a partnership made in collaboration heaven. ]]>

We’ve all been there: you’re working on a project when inspiration hits. But your fingers can’t type as fast as the ideas are flowing, or worse, you can’t find the right words to convey the details of your latest brain blast. All too often, virtual collaboration can lead to watered-down work after rounds of remote, written feedback and “Is this what you meant?” DMs. That’s why Vimeo has teamed up with Figma, the digital design tool we use every day, to bring in-the-moment creativity back to your collaborative process.

By pairing FigJam (Figma’s online whiteboard) and Figma (their end-to-end UI and product design platform) with our video recording tool Vimeo Record, we’re enabling teams to bring that electric IRL energy to your virtual spaces.

With the new Vimeo Record Plugin, you can now record your screen, webcam, or both directly from the files you’re collaborating on in Figma and FigJam. This means that you can spend less time typing out your feedback, and more time capturing ideas right as inspiration strikes. No more contextless review cycles or confusing comments — just genuine thoughts (and enthusiasm!) from the humans you join forces with every day.

To leave live feedback in FigJam, simply record your comments in the file of your choice, then watch your video preview unfurl alongside your work. When working on a project in Figma Design, you can embed your video as a thumbnail directly onto the Figma canvas. Your collaborators can then watch your comments, ideas, or accolades via simple playback within your whiteboard or canvas.

Here’s how your team can use Vimeo Record to work better together:

  • Project onboarding: Record a short welcome video to review goals, progress, and next steps so new team members can get up to speed quickly without the need for another meeting or lengthy email. You can record, edit, and share your content seamlessly thanks to our Create X Record integration.
  • Design feedback: Highlight specific visual elements while narrating your feedback to keep your ideas in context.
  • Async ideation: Share your spur-of-the-moment ideas to add more engaging context to your projects — then let your team watch and respond with comments when it’s convenient for them.

Ready for a more enlightened way of collaborating? Install the Vimeo Record plugin for Figma and FigJam today.

Team management, explained https://vimeo.com/blog/post/collaborate-private-projects/ Tue, 07 Dec 2021 17:17:00 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/2018/02/08/collaborate-private-projects/ Wanna manage your team on Vimeo? Here's everything you need to know. ]]>

At Vimeo, we want to make it easy for you to join forces with the people who make your work possible. We’re constantly improving our team management capabilities so you and your collaborators can make good projects even better. Wanna know how it all works? Let’s review.

Adding a team member on Vimeo

To add a member to your Team on Vimeo, select “Team management” from your user menu or account dropdown, then hit “Invite.”

Vimeo Pro members can add up to three team members to their account, and Vimeo Premium members can add up to ten. (If you’re an Enterprise subscriber, the number of team members you can add is determined based on your contract; please contact your account manager if you have questions!)

Add a new team member by entering their email address and selecting their role. You can change or revoke any team member’s permission settings by visiting the Team Management page

Vimeo Team Management permission types

Vimeo offers four different team management roles. Let’s review them and the permissions associated with each:

Viewers: This permissions setting allows team members to access review pages, leave comments, and share videos. They can’t upload, edit, publish, or access other settings.

Contributors: A step up from viewer, this setting allows a member to create, share, review, and upload content. Contributors can edit existing content, but they can’t change a folder title or delete a folder.

Admins: This permissions setting is just one rung below Account Owner, and allows a user to manage all videos, folders, and collections, as well as change settings and delete videos. They can also view, manage, add, and delete all individual team members. They’re only blocked from access account settings and payment info.

Owners: This is the highest level of access for a Vimeo account, and allows the Owner to do all of the above plus edit and organize the account’s profile page, delete live events, and more.

Admins and Owners can also grant Contributors viewer-only access to specific folders, straight from the folder. Handy! (While anyone can organize their videos into folders, the ability to add team members to specific folders is available to Vimeo Pro plans and above.)

And all of it happens from our newly redesigned team interface, making it easier than ever for you to view team members, manage roles, and control your brand settings — all from a single dashboard.

Cinema-grade video for all: Vimeo supports Dolby Vision for Apple devices https://vimeo.com/blog/post/dolby-vision-support-apple-devices/ Fri, 10 Sep 2021 12:45:36 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=42239 This is gonna change everything.]]>

In 2017, we brought HDR support to Vimeo, enabling our creative community to capture and share higher quality video than ever before. Today, we’re proud to be the first global all-in-one video platform to support Dolby Vision.

Dolby Vision enables creators to produce stunning high dynamic range (HDR) videos and to deliver them to their viewers with their original creative intent fully intact – which is why Dolby Vision is one of the leading HDR imaging technologies among the world’s top storytellers, studios, and content distributors. Now you can easily create, host, and share cinema-grade videos — with supported playback within the Apple device ecosystem.

That’s huge news for dedicated creators and casual viewers alike. Your Dolby Vision videos hosted on Vimeo’s world-class player can now be experienced the way they’re meant to be seen, when viewed from compatible supported Apple devices.

What Dolby Vision means for you

Ultra-vivid and lifelike video quality

The same Dolby Vision technology that can deliver colors never-before-seen on a screen — plus highlights that are up to 40x brighter and blacks that are 10x darker — is now in the hands of Apple and Vimeo users everywhere. Whether it’s fleeting golden hour moments, low-light interiors, or sun-blazed daytime sequences, Dolby Vision allows you to capture and deliver your vision the way you want it to be seen, and immerse your viewers in every detail.

Starting right away, all Vimeo users, regardless of tier, can start hosting and sharing their Dolby Vision content, with ultra-vivid picture, brighter highlights, darker shadows, and incredible color. You can check out the Dolby Vision difference below.

Host on a best-in-class player

Your favorite binge-worthy shows are already utilizing Dolby Vision to share high-quality imagery that keeps you coming back for more. Now, you can upload, host, and share your ultra-vivid videos to a player trusted by over 200 million users.

Hosting your Dolby Vision content on Vimeo also gives you access to up to 7TB of storage (that’s enough space for 600 feature films!), a hyper-customizable player, and a totally ad-free experience, every time.

Spectacular playback experience across Apple devices

Now that you can upload and host your Dolby Vision footage on Vimeo without any compromise on image quality, viewers watching on compatible Apple devices — including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV 4K — can experience your work at its most beautiful, and exactly as you intended. Think theater-level viewing, from home and on the go.

How it works

1. First, you’ll need to create your Dolby Vision video. Users with an iPhone 12 can record and edit Dolby Vision content using just the phone in their pocket — which means it’s never been easier to capture and share best-in-class video. You can also take your footage to your Mac to edit your HDR content and export a Dolby Vision video file ready for upload.

(You can learn more about creating in Dolby Vision – including tutorials and FAQs – here.)

2. Once you’ve captured and edited your video, any Vimeo user can upload it directly to Vimeo from anywhere, through whatever workflow you prefer: from Final Cut Pro, or directly from your upload page.

3. Now that you’ve got your gorgeous video uploaded, you can view and share your video in all its Dolby Vision glory. Videos uploaded to Vimeo in Dolby Vision include a badge denoting the video quality on the video page and player, so your viewers will know your content is the highest possible video quality.

A note about devices: in order for viewers to experience your videos in Dolby Vision quality, they must be watching on a compatible Apple device, including iPhone 8 and above, 2nd generation iPad Pro and above, Mac*, and Apple TV 4K (if connected to a Dolby Vision TV).

Vimeo automatically detects and displays videos in Dolby Vision on all supported Apple devices. (But no worries if someone’s watching from an older model or non-Apple device — uploads are automatically converted to the best visual format available to any viewer’s device.)

Dolby Vision visuals, revealed

Staff Picked director Aaron Lieber — known for his stunning surf cinematography — is a long-time Vimeo pro who’s now using Dolby Vision to make his already dynamic work even more immersive. “I’ve been a Vimeo user since 2013, and I got my first Staff Pick in 2015,” he says. To me, Vimeo really elevates what your film looks like.”

Nearly a decade after uploading his first video to Vimeo, Aaron is able to show off his stunning, Dolby Vision visuals on the video platform that he calls home. “The fact that you can have Dolby Vision on your [iPhone], shoot and edit on your phone, and have it on Vimeo, almost all in one day is just incredible,” Aaron emphasizes.

Video accessibility at Vimeo: what you need to know https://vimeo.com/blog/post/accessibility-updates-to-the-vimeo-player/ Thu, 19 Aug 2021 12:00:00 +0000 https://vimeo.com/blog/?p=21052 video accessibilityWe're rolling out accessibility updates to the Vimeo player. Read on to learn what's new.]]> video accessibility

This post was originally published in September 2019 and updated in August 2021

Vimeo is committed to empowering creators of all kinds with the tools they need to succeed with video. Part of that success means offering a fully accessible player that can reach any audience, regardless of their cognitive, visual, or physical abilities.

For that reason, we’re announcing some exciting updates that will make the Vimeo player more accessible for all. Before we dive in, let’s discuss what ‘video accessibility’ means and its importance to creating video content for all audiences.

So what is video accessibility anyway?

Simply put, video accessibility means that a video has captions, audio description, and a video transcript so that anyone who watches it can understand it’s meaning. A description of the visual information being presented is the essential component of any accessible video.

Another piece of video accessibility to consider is careful use of color, text, and animation to ensure that nothing is inaccessible to visually impaired viewers. Similarly, a video shouldn’t contain excessive ‘flashes’ and bursts of bright color.

Check out an example of an accessible video, captions and all, below:

Vimeo’s commitment to video accessibility

Vimeo remains committed to providing an equitable viewing experience for all, as outlined in the accessibility measures described below:

WCAG compliance

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is a set of web standards that ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. There are three levels of compliance within these guidelines: A, AA, and AAA — the last being the most accessible a website can be. Today’s updates bring the Vimeo player into compliance with AA standards. You can read more about the criteria here.

Live automated closed captions

Vimeo Enterprise and Advanced customers can enable automated closed captions on their live streams. Closed captions on live streams make it possible for those with diverse levels of aural abilities, language comprehension skills, and learning styles to consume and enjoy live content. You can learn more about what they are, and how to implement them, here

Automatic transcription

We’ve enabled automatic closed captioning on all Enterprise VOD content, giving team members the power to search for keywords in any relevant video and find the exact moment they’re looking for, in just seconds. These captions are enabled by default for Enterprise users.

Bonus points!

Captioning your video content can help improve your video’s SEO performance. Google and other search engines can index closed captions from their text files, meaning it will be easier for them to understand the subject matter of your video and, thus, improve ranking.

Vimeo player features:

+ Support for subtitles and captions: Vimeo allows creators to upload caption and subtitle files to any video. To turn on captions or subtitles when viewing a video, click the CC button in the player’s bottom toolbar.

+ Higher color contrast: To ensure users of all sight abilities can fully experience videos on Vimeo, our player will now maintain a default color contrast ratio, in compliance with AA standards.

+ Clearer focus states: For users who rely on their keyboards to navigate, we’ve added changes that make it clear which element in the player is active at any given time. Users will now see a blue or white box around the active element, with a high color contrast.

+ Better support for screen readers: For users who rely on screen readers (e.g. JAWS, NVDA), we ensure that any element in the Vimeo player can be read accordingly.

A note on improving video accessibility

Accessibility creates a sense of belonging by being inclusive. This means giving all individuals the opportunity to participate, in every aspect, to the fullest extent possible. Accessibility is not limited to varying abilities; everyone can benefit when something is accessible. It’s a win across the board.

The Vimeo player offers support for captions and subtitles across multiple devices. We’re passionate about accessibility, and we’re actively working on making all Vimeo products more accessible, too.

“Can you see my screen?”

“We’re just waiting for a few more people.”

“Oh, you’re muted!”

While many of us continue to navigate remote and hybrid work, we’ve spent the last year getting pretty familiar with these daily Zoom-isms. Video chats have become a fact of life for professional workers around the globe – but hours of back-to-back video chats can be draining. When your calendar is feeling the meeting crush (or you just need to remind yourself what fresh air feels like), teams need an easy way to keep everyone in the loop. That’s why we’ve built an app for the Zoom marketplace allowing you to automatically upload your Zoom recordings to your Vimeo account.

The days of manually downloading Zooms, then uploading them to your Vimeo account are over. Plus, once your recordings are uploaded, you can set specific permissions to share with certain groups, disseminate via unlisted links, or pass around to your whole team. Here’s how it works.

1. Enable recording permissions

First things first, you’re gonna need a Vimeo account – we can help with that right this way. Once that’s squared away, you’ll need to set up recording permissions on your Zoom account. (If you don’t have Recording permissions enabled, contact the owner of your Zoom account to make it happen.)

NOTE: This app is currently only available to members of Zoom’s Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise plans.

2. Download the app

Next, you’re gonna need to download the app, which you can do right here. Follow the setup flow until you get that sweet installation confirmation.

3. Start recording

Once you’ve successfully installed the app, confirm you have Cloud recording enabled in your Zoom account, then select “Record to the cloud” on your next Zoom meeting.

4. Trim, chapter, and share with your team

After your video finishes transcoding (fancy!), it will appear in the Zoom Recordings folder in your video manager on Vimeo. From there, you can trim your video to highlight important moments, sort your content into folders (and subfolders!) for easy team access, tag relevant team members at key moments, and even add chapters to make lengthy recordings much easier to sift through.

For Vimeo members with team capabilities, you can easily keep the whole crew up to date with shared folders. Any time a new Zoom recording is added to the shared folder of your choice, members will be automatically notified, so they know when there’s new content to view. (Plus, you can see who’s viewing your recording in real-time!)
