Earthquakes not only shake buildings, they shake the whole community.
Volunteers who came to the small village called Norcia after the earthquake were doing several activities. Most of them contributed as a help to the social reconstruction of the town.
One of their activities was playing with local children. As it was summer, there was no school or kindergarten. However, there was a summer club “Il Monello” and theatre activities for kids. And volunteers joined in. They taught children traditional games and songs of their countries, told stories, played with them and simply spent time together.
Marianna, the organizer of theatre laboratory, noticed how well kids interacted with volunteers. “Kids didn’t look at them as ‘European Voluntary Service volunteers’, they saw people. And they created a bond from the very beginning.”
